Description

The Password Protect Pages plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Sensitive Information Exposure in all versions up to, and including, 1.9.25 due to the use of a predictable, time-based value (uniqid()) as the global password it auto-generates when a page or post is protected with the one-click 'Protect' row action or through category/tag protection. Because this value is only a hex encoding of the current timestamp in microseconds and password attempts are not rate limited, an unauthenticated attacker who can closely estimate when protection was applied, for example when a post was protected right after it was published, can narrow the search space enough to brute-force the auto-generated password and view the protected content.
