Description
The Charitable plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to limited file uploads in versions 1.4.0 up to, and including, 1.8.12.3. The charitable_plupload_image_upload AJAX handler serves the picture upload field, such as the profile avatar on a [charitable_profile] page, and is registered for both logged-in and logged-out users. It passed uploads to wp_handle_upload() without limiting them to image types, and it attached each file to whatever post_id the request supplied. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with Subscriber-level access and above, who can load a page containing a picture upload field to upload any file type WordPress allows for their role to the media library, bypassing the upload_files capability. That includes PDF, archive, audio and video files, but not HTML or PHP. Attackers can also attach these uploads to arbitrary posts.
